SA students on track to F1 glory

Students from three South Australian schools are set to take on their international counterparts at the 2023 World Finals of the global STEM challenge, F1 in Schools.

Established in Australia 20 years ago, the F1 in Schools program encourages groups of students to follow a pathway of engineering and manufacturing by taking them through the collaborative process of designing, analysing, testing, making and racing their own miniature vehicle.

After participating in the 2022 National Finals, students from Modbury High School, Charles Campbell College and Adelaide High School and are now on track to take on the world in Singapore from 8-15 September 2023.

Team AUS Collab and Team Propulsion are preparing for the event and fundraising to help them reach their goal of competing on the global stage.

Businesses and individuals can help the teams by providing financial support or collaborating with them in other ways including providing advice and services.

Team AUS Collab

Made up of students from Modbury High and Penrith Christian School in Sydney, AUS Collab (formerly Aero Racing) experienced some incredible highs during the State and National Finals, including winning a number of awards such as Best Managed Enterprise, Best Manufactured Car CAD and Best Engineered Car.

On top of this, they have had the opportunity to collaborate with a number of stakeholders and industry members throughout their journey to create partnerships and learn along the way.

Collectively, the team has shared their excitement about the opportunities and career pathways they’ve been introduced to through the challenge.

Team Manager, Kahlan, said the team is optimistic about their performance in Singapore and said the team are doing everything they can to perform at their best.

“Although, no matter our results, we are excited at the prospect at representing our country and state,” Kahlan said.

The team are grateful for all the support received to date, including from their major sponsor, the South Australian Department of Education, who have helped kickstart their fundraising efforts.
