Global defence and space program kicks off

The first hand-picked cohort of students have commenced UniSA’s new Global Executive MBA in Defence and Space, a program specially designed to build highly qualified talent across the AUKUS alliance.
Targeted at executives and senior managers in the defence and space sectors from Australia, the UK and US, the first members to undergo the 18-month program span across defence contractors and subject matter experts, senior members of the ADF and allied countries, and civil servants.
The MBA will address critical skills gaps in cyber security, space systems, geopolitics and defence procurement while also building highly sought after leadership capability across the sector.
Professor Lan Snell, Dean of Programs (Postgraduate), UniSA Business, says UniSA entered into an Education Partnership Agreement with two international universities in the University of Exeter (UK) and Carnegie Mellon University (USA).
“The AUKUS announcement presents significant opportunities for those directly in the sector and those servicing the sector,” Prof Snell said.
“The complexities associated with the multi-decade projects require a range of skills and capabilities, ranging from technical skills through to project management and leadership capabilities.
“The defence and space sectors are a prime example of industries that require leaders who can navigate complex geopolitical relationships and work across different cultural and institutional contexts.”
The program spans across international borders with some face-to-face residential teaching blocks occurring in Adelaide, as well as in Washington DC, Pittsburgh and London. The first intensive residential program in Adelaide ran from Monday 18 – Friday 29 September.
A member of the inaugural group of students, Glen Gallagher, Operations Manager at Boeing Defence Australia said the Global Executive MBA would provide an opportunity to forge invaluable global networks.
“I find the prospect of a shared global experience and the strategic collaborative vision offered through the program very exciting,” said Mr Gallagher.
