Edinburgh Defence Precinct is a key national defence research, manufacturing and sustainment hub housing RAAF Base Edinburgh, Defence Science and Technology and major defence companies.
Located 25 kilometres north of Adelaide, the precinct has easy access to major transport routes, with links to the national highway network, port facilities and the Adelaide–Darwin rail line. Ideally suited to defence manufacturing companies, it has a range of fully serviced, large allotments ready for immediate development.
The precinct consists of four sites and more than 6,500 personnel and is South Australia’s largest defence establishment which is currently undergoing a large-scale transformation. The four sites are: RAAF Base Edinburgh, Defence Science and Technology – Edinburgh, Edinburgh Parks and the Woomera Range Complex.
Over the past 10 years the precinct has become a major intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) hub for the Australian Defence Force with Air Warfare Centre, 92 Wing, and 1 Remote Sensor Unit located at the base. It also has a strong electronic warfare presence with Joint Electronic and 462 Squadron located at the precinct.
A new $160 million facility is set to be built adjacent to RAAF Base Edinburgh which will allow for the heavy maintenance and modification of the P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft and RAAF E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft. Construction of the new facility is expected to start mid-2024 and be fully operational early in 2026.
The Edinburgh Parks industrial precinct is home to a number of key defence organisations including BAE Systems Australia and Lockheed Martin Australia.
